| Description |
Here are a wonderfully quirky pair of Meiji period Japanese bronze baluster shaped vases of hexagonal lobed form.
The unusual decoration on the vase sides is that of pairs of elephants standing on rocky outcrops.
Does one find elephants climbing on rocks ?
They are 12 inches (30 cms) tall.
In late 19th Century Victorian Britain there was a passion for things Japanese. These vases would have reached our shores at that time, circa 1890
