Description

JAPANESE MEIJI CLOISONNE SIGNED VASE

A beautifully decorated large silver wired Japanese baluster shaped cloisonné vase carrying on the base the impressed mark of Tsukamoto Hikokichi (see mark 64 in Coben & Ferster).

From the late Meiji period circa 1905.

The Tsukamoto family are amongst the most famous artisans of the Meiji period. Some are known to have worked the Namikawa Sosuke studio.

On a pale blue background a fighting cock is depicted poised in mid flight ready to strike.

There is a restoration to a ding by the body of the cockerel and there are some star bursts. Despite these defects the vase still displays extremely well and will be priced accordingly.
