Egyptian and Canaanite Scarab & Cylinder Seals
These Cylinder and Scarab Seals are Canaanite
seals from the Middle-Bronze and Late-Bronze Age.
Cylinder seals were invented in Mesopotamia in the
Early-Bronze Age, and the Scarab Seals were widely
used in ancient Egypt. Both cultures heavily influenced
Canaanite peoples and their use spread to this region
of the Fertile Crescent.
These were often used by Ancient Egypt and
Ancient Mesopotamia to seal documents with
the image of the scarab seals on hot wax
so that the receiver of the documents (stone tablets)
would know that they were not tampered with
in transit.
